FIFTY FIFTY's lawsuit against ATTRAKT - What, when and why?

FIFTY FIFTY’s lawsuit against their agency ATTRAKT has been the talk in the k-pop world for several months now. But what happened exactly, and how has the situation evolved? Here a short timeline for you.

In June 2023, Fifty Fifty submitted an application to suspend the validity of their exclusive contract. The members explained that they had not generated revenue from sound sources or physical sales, and income only began being recorded on the 23rd of June, just four days after they had submitted their application. Their legal representative, Barun Law, presented three key claims: lack of financial transparency, alleged negligence in taking care of the members' health, and insufficient resources for group activities.

The court initially suggested mediation between the two parties. However, on the 16th of August, the members declared their unwillingness to continue with mediation.

Shortly after, on the 28th of August, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the case and denied the members’ requests to suspend their contracts due to a lack of supporting evidence. The court also criticized the group for not engaging in discussions with their agency before resorting to legal action. Under Korean law, when an agency breaches a contract, the artist is legally obliged to provide a 14-day notice period to the agency following the contract violation, which the group failed to do.

Following up on this, Keena requested the court to remove her from the injunction request filed against the agency and its CEO, Jeon Hong Joon.

During an exclusive interview with Dispatch, however, Keena revealed that Ahn Sung Il (producer) reduced her copyright shares from 6.5% to 0.5%. Additionally, her signature had been forged, and her school records falsified, which eroded her trust in him. Dispatch also detailed how SIAHN (chief producer and co-CEO of their management company ATTRAKT) manipulated the group, claiming that he single-handedly made "Cupid" as successful as it is.

Five months later, Keena returned to the office and engaged in a conversation with Jeon Hong Joon, CEO of ATTRAKT, who asked her to take some time for reflection. The CEO stated that he needs to understand by who and how they were manipulated.

Keena and he agreed to schedule a discussion 2 days later. Her primary concern was to ensure the well-being of her team members and express her will to remain with her group.

She also explained that she and the members share a different vision regarding the issues, hence keeping them from acting as a group, and forcing Keena to engage in reconciliation with ATTRAKT and its CEO by herself.

Up until now, the lawsuit between the other members (Sion, Saena, Aran) and ATTRAKT remains ongoing and public.
