IVE’s Wonyoung legal fight against youtuber Sojang takes another turn

In 2022, Starship Entertainment initiated both civil and criminal lawsuits against YouTuber Sojang, who had been harassing their artists and other idols on her YouTube channel. In July, the agency filed a lawsuit seeking damages against the YouTuber for creating and spreading fake information about IVE. 

A few months later, IVE member Wonyoung personally filed a lawsuit and presented evidence demonstrating that the videos published on Sojang's channel contained false information and insulting content. Subsequently, the YouTuber was charged with insults and defamation. 

On January 18, JTBC revealed that Sojang allegedly hired individuals to write malicious comments on YouTube videos. The YouTuber posted a job position for part-timers, offering payment at 0.034€ per comment and 0.069€ per long comment. 

Recently, Wonyoung has won the civil lawsuit and will be compensated 100 million won (68,873.92€) for the damages. The amount will accrue 12% interest until fully paid, and Sojang will also have to cover the court costs incurred during the lawsuit. 

On January 23, Sojang filed an injunction to suspend the execution of the court's decision with the intention to challenge the ruling. In some cases, if the defendant files an appeal within two weeks, the court's decision is not executed. 

In the meantime, K-pop fans praised the members of IVE for winning the lawsuit, as Sojang is well known for targeting other idols such as V (BTS), Soobin (TXT), Sullyoon (Nmixx), and many others.
