NewJeans seeks assistance from a US Federal Court in a defamation case

On April 10, The New York Times reported that ADOR, the company managing NewJeans, sought assistance from the Federal Court in California regarding a defamation case. The agency approached the court to compel Google to disclose the identity of the YouTuber who posted videos making defamatory statements about NewJeans.

These videos became viral, amassing over 13 million views and causing significant reputational damage to the group.

The lawyer representing the group explained that the account engaged in name-calling and displayed other mocking behaviors targeting the group.

Initially, ADOR attempted to file a complaint in Seoul, but the effort was hindered by the account's anonymity. Should the court rule in favor of the group, they would then be able to sue the YouTuber in Seoul for defamation and insult, both of which are considered criminal offenses.
