The MAMA Awards have announced a major change in the criteria for the “Album of the Year” category

Ahead of the MAMA Awards, which will be held from November 21 to 23, a major change in the criteria has sparked debates among netizens.

Previously, the criteria to win 'Album of the Year' were based on sales. S arting this year, however, the category will take into consideration the planning, music, artwork quality, visuals, and overall impact.

The announcement divided netizens, with some welcoming the changes as they see them as fair, arguing that the number of albums sold does not determine their quality.

On the other hand, some believe that the new criteria are more subjective and vary from person to person, making it harder to understand what the judges are looking for. For those netizens, adding these criteria makes the process less transparent. Some even joked that the category should be renamed 'Concept of the Year' instead of 'Album of the Year'.

Netizens concluded the debate by noting that the change wasn’t surprising, given the MAMA Awards' reputation from past editions: a lack of transparency in voting, controversies over the mistreatment of certain groups and fans (particularly from two companies), and unfair practices. Despite this, they still wished the best to the winner.
